Yes, up to 2 dogs are very welcome.  We do ask for an additional cleaning fee for dogs and we would prefer that they did not sleep upstairs.

Yes, there is a washing machine and a separate tumble dryer in the utility room.  

We would ask that you provide your own washing liquid.

Not long at all!  The house is an easy 6 minute stroll to Southwold Pier.

Yes, there is plenty of parking at the property.  There is a drive which offers secure parking for a car (or car plus trailered boat), plus space in front of the property if needed.

Yes, there is a TV in the sitting room (with connected Amazon firestick), plus TVs in x1 of the double bedrooms and in the twin bedroom.

Yes.  We will make up beds (there are up to x5 double beds) as required (please just tell us how many beds you need preparing), plus provide clean towels for your stay.

Yes - there is a hub with login details in the hall of the property.

1.  Southwold main beach:

The main beach at Southwold is a short walk from the Ravine (accessible within a 6 minute walk through the pier car park).  

Note, however, that dogs are restricted from the main central beach in Southwold from April 1 to September 30. These restrictions, aimed at the busy summer season, typically apply to the area between the northern end of the beach huts and Gun Hill Café.

2.  Denes beach:

The area just south of the main Southwold Beach is called Denes Beach (off Ferry Road). Denes Beach begins just past Gun Hill Cafe.  Not overwhelmed with facilities, dogs are welcome on this quiet stretch of beach all year round.

This beach is about a 15 - 20 minute stroll from the Ravine (along the promenade - which is a nice dog walk in itself).

3.  The beach at Easton Bavents

There is a beach immediately behind the Ravine, below the cliffs at Easton Bavents.  However, there is no public access to this beach. You do sometimes see people managing to access the beach with their dogs at very low tide.  However, it is not safe to climb over the sea defences or risk walking through the sea to access this beach. Consequently, anyone accessing the beach below Easton Bavents via this route does so strictly at their own risk.

Note also that the cliffs at Easton Bavents are eroding and unstable and it is also not safe to clamber up and down these cliffs to access the beach.

Yes, there are a lot of dog walking routes near the Ravine.  There are a number of popular footpaths within a few minutes’ walk of The Ravine (including through the beautiful Southwold marshes near Buss Creek).

Dogs are also welcome all year round on The Denes beach (see above for details about the beaches nearest to The Ravine and when dogs can visit them).

Yes, there is an integrated dishwasher in the kitchen.

We would ask that you provide your own dishwasher tablets, or restock the house’s supplies of these before you leave.

Please note that since this video was made, the bunk beds in one of the bedrooms have been replaced with a double bed and the double bed in one of the bedrooms has been replaced with twin beds.

No, there are currently no rooms configured as downstairs bedrooms at The Ravine.

In May 2025, Which? reported that the beach at Southwold Pier was one of the top 6 cleanest beaches in the UK.  

Which? said:

”Everything about this Suffolk town is classy: from the well-maintained pastel-painted beach huts to the tasteful pier with its collection of eccentric, old-penny-operated arcade games. Throw in a lighthouse, Georgian houses and a few Adnams pubs and you have all the ingredients for a genteel day by the sea. 

There are two beaches: the Denes, a sand and shingle beach backed by scrubby dunes, and Southwold Pier beach. The latter is more crowded but the sea is cleaner - here the bathing waters are classified as excellent, a step up from the Denes (most recently designated good).”

There is a small integrated fridge (with a very small freezer drawer)  included within the run of units in the kitchen.

There is also a separate standalone fridge in the kitchen/diner (which is also of a size which would fit under a work surface).  This separate standalone fridge has now freezer drawer. 

There is also a standalone medium sized freezer in the utility room.
